The Afronautic Research Lab

Camille Turner

The Afronautic Research Lab is a performance/installation created by Camille Turner in 2016. Citizen researchers are invited into the Afronautic Research Lab to consult archival documents that provide evidence of a past that has been erased. The documents include eighteenth-century Canadian newspapers that advertised enslaved people for sale, amongst other goods and services, blackface minstrel shows in places such as Georgetown, and photos of Ku Klux Klan activities in Calgary, Toronto, and Oakville!
